My name is …. I would like to tell you about London, its history and modern life.

London is the capital of Britain, one of the most important and beautiful cities in the world. More than 7 million people live there.

London is a very old city. The Romans came to England in the 1st century and built the town on the River Thames. The name of the town was Londinium. After the year 400 the Romans left Britain.

In 1066 William the Conqueror and his people came to England from France. William the Conqueror became the King of England. He was afraid of the people of London and built the White Tower to live in it.

In 1666 there was the Great Fire of London and many houses were burnt.

Now I will tell you about the places to visit in London.
The Tower of London. It was a fortress, a palace, a prison, and the King’s Zoo. Now it is a museum.
St Paul’s Cathedral is the greatest English church. It’s a beautiful building with many columns and towers.
The Houses of Parliament is a long building with towers. Big Ben is one of the towers with a big clock.
Westminster Abbey is the most famous church in London. Many English kings and queens are buried there.
Buckingham palace is the place where the queen lives.

I think that London is a very interesting city to visit.

My Home

     My name is … . First, I will tell you about English homes, then – about my home.
     Many English families live in flats, but a lot of people have got their own houses. There are two floors in the traditional English house: the ground floor and the first floor. The bedrooms and a bathrooms are upstairs on the first floor. The sitting room, the dining room and the study are downstairs on the ground floor. The kitchen and the hall are downstairs on the ground floor, too.
     The sitting room is usually the largest room in the house. English people often spend evenings in armchairs near the fireplace. They read books, watch TV, listen to music or sit around and talk. They like their homes and often say, “East or West, home is best”.
      Now I would like to tell you about my home. I live in Russia, in Saint Petersburg, which is a big city. We live in a flat. There is/are 1/2/3/4 rooms in our flat: my parents’ room, my room, a living room, … . We also have a kitchen, a hall, a bathroom and a toilet. My room is small, but comfortable. [ПОДРОБНОЕ описание своей комнаты] I like my room very much.
   And, where do you live? How many rooms are there in your flat? Is there a park near your house? Can you tell me, please?

Primary Schools in England

          My name is ... . I want to tell you about primary schools in England.

          In Great Britain school begins at the age of four or five. Many boys and girls usually leave school at the age of sixteen. Primary school has two levels: infant schools and junior schools. (level - уровень).

        Infant schools or infant classes begin at the age of four or five. Children spend there three years till they are seven. Their classes are not always formal. They often sit on the carpet and listen to their teacher. They sing songs, draw pictures and play games. Infant pupils begin to learn how to read, count and write. They learn how to get on with other children, too.

      Junior schools begin at the age of seven. Children spend there four years till they are eleven. Junior schools are real schools. The school subjects are English, Maths, History, Nature Study, Swimming, Music, and Art.

        In England the school year begins in September, but not always on the first day of the month. Children have classes five days a week.  They do not study on Saturday and Sunday. Classes usually begin at nine and finish at about four o'clock.

        Schools in England have names, not numbers. In most schools pupils wear uniform.

        Children love their school.

Autumn

Autumn comes in September. The weather is usually warm and dry, but it can rain. The leaves fall down from the trees. I think that forests are very beautiful in autumn – the leaves are red, green, yellow, orange and brown. And autumn is a “tasty” season: there are a lot of vegetables and fruit.

Spring, Summer

In Great Britain there are two spring months: March and April. Spring comes after winter. Spring is warmer than winter. The leaves are small and green. The grass is green, too. In spring I usually enjoy the sun because it is not very hot.

Summer months are May, June, July and August. Summer is the warmest season. In summer the days are longer and the nights are shorter. We can see a lot of flowers and animals.

Winter

There are four seasons in the year: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

The winter months in Great Britain are November, December, January and February.

Winter is the coldest season of the year. In winter there is a lot of snow. Forest and fields are white with snow. They look wonderful in  winter.

My Clothes

My Clothes

My name is … . I want to tell you about my clothes. I have got a lot of nice clothes. In winter I usually wear a warm coat, a hat, high boots and mittens. In Summer I wear a T-shirt and shorts, or a dress. When I go to school I put on my school uniform: a grey jacket, a white shirt (blouse), trousers (a skirt) and black shoes. At home I always take off the school uniform and wear a T-shirt. When I go to the sports ground I wear a sweater, jeans and trainers. In rainy weather I put on a raincoat. Last Sunday I went to a party and wore … (a beautiful dress and shoes/ a beautiful sweater and jeans).

I buy my clothes in the shop. Last Saturday my mother and I went shopping. We were in the shoe shop. I said to the shop assistant:

‘I’d like a pair of shoes, please.’
‘What colour would you like?’
‘Brown’
‘And what size do you want?’
‘Thirty five. Can I try them on?’
‘Of course’

I tried the shoes on, but they were too small for me. The shop assistant gave us bigger shoes and they suited me very well. We bought them. I look great in them.

In summer I will go to my dacha. Next Sunday my mother and I will go shopping for new summer clothes. I like to buy new clothes very much.

I Like Animals

I like animals

I like animals very much. There are wild animals and domestic animals. We can see wild animals in the zoo.

Last week my mother and I went to the zoo. We saw a lot of animals there: tigers and lions, elephants and monkeys, giraffes and crocodiles, wolves and foxes, white bears and brown bears, horses and hares.

The elephant is the biggest four-legged animal. It has got a very long nose – a trunk, and two long white teeth – tusks. The giraffe has got the longest neck. The hare’s tail is shorter than the tiger’s tail. We watched monkeys. They were very funny. They jumped, ran and made funny faces. I think that monkeys are the most interesting animals.
A lot of people have got pets. I have got a cat. Her name is Pussy. She is two years old. She is black and white. Pussy is very clever. She answers her name. I teach her to jump high. Sometimes I take Pussy for a walk. I give Pussy cat food to eat and milk to drink. She also likes cheese and cookies. My mother and I look after her. I love Pussy very much.
